New Local Market and Cafe Coming Soon - Mission Hills, Hillcrest & North Park Areas

One lucky neighborhood will get an SOL Market

New Local Market and Cafe Coming Soon
Residents of either Mission Hills, Hillcrest or North Park will soon have the opportunity to shop and eat, at a new neighborhood market and cafe called SOL, which stands for Seasonal, Local and Organic. SOL’s creators, longtime friends Vince Brown and Jerry Moore, wouldn’t divulge the market’s exact location until the ink dries on their lease, but my money’s on North Park.

But they were happy to share their plans for the 4,000 square foot market, where they intend to stock 1,500 products, all locally sourced or produced in San Diego County. The owners are currently talking to many area farms about selling their produce, though they insist that their retail market will complement, not compete with local farmers’ markets. SOL Market will also carry local fish and meat, and promise to be competitive, or even beat, Whole Foods Markets’ prices.

They should be ready for business by early September, and in addition to the market, will open an adjacent cafe, where shoppers can grab a quick bite made with market ingredients alongside some local craft beer or wine. SOL Market plans to host live music and art shows, and provide a space for local community group meetings and culinary classes. Best of all, Brown and Moore hope to also be able to bring the SOL Market concept to neighborhoods where access to fresh, local and healthy food is still lacking.
