Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur California: Video

The California Coastline, one of my favorite places to refuel and take in nature. I love The Post Ranch Inn, the grounds are breathtaking. Their restaurant Sierra Mar is amazing! I am addicted to Bonny Doon Farm Lavender Soap stocked in the rooms and available online via Post Ranch Inn Mercantile as well. Intoxicating scent! Be sure to eat at Nepenthe and take in the local artist. Enjoy.

92103 Driveabout: Bankers Hill/Hillcrest (Video)

Following are three of my favorite weekend things to do:
  1. The Spruce St. Bridge
  2. The Juniper-Front Community Garden (Video)
  3. Seasonal shopping at Urban Outfitters in Hillcrest.
Enjoy!

Towards Downtown

2220 Front Street, Juniper-Front Community Garden

2220 Front Street. The Juniper-Front Community Garden is perched on a hill on Front Street between Ivy and Juniper Street, and was established in 1981. The quarter block is divided into approximately sixty 10-by-12 foot plots. The Port Authority owns the land and rents the garden plots for approx. $100 per year. Juniper-Front Community Garden’s waiting list is long, often with prospective gardeners waiting a full year before an opening.
Matt Browne has a plot at the community garden and filmed this video.

Views and Solitude at Inspiration Point, Presidio Park Walk (Video)

The weather was perfect to get out and walk the dogs somewhere  off the beaten path. Today, I chose Presidio Park because its a perfect 30 getaway right in the city. Easy parking along Cosoy Way lead me a trail head near the bathrooms. Lots of families were out enjoying the greenbelts with picnics and sports. Walking North I took the upper trails to the Inspiration Point benches located at the top of the grass hill east of the parking lot. Looping back to another trail we came back down and crossed over near Serra Museum, and back through the pergola outlook to the lot. Enjoy

YouTube Mom Betty Givan's Family Recipes - bettyskitchen (Video)

Try these family recipes from YouTube sensation Betty Givan. Featured on ABC's 20/20 last week, bettyskitchen is a YouTube channel I've been telling everyone about. I am so happy to see her reaching so many satisfied fans, on national television! I'm sure you will fall in love with her too.

As her description reads: Betty, a retired math professor, demonstrates her favorite recipes. Most of the recipes are Southern homestyle cooking. Betty's husband, Rick, operates the camera, and gives a lot of help and support to bettyskitchen.

In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make an elegant party dip of peaches with sour cream and brown sugar (also with a nip of rum!). You *can* make this a party for one--yourself! Below is another peach recipe from the spot last week on 20/20. Click the title link for more recipes from that episode. Enjoy ya'll.

Grand Canyon Serenade-Video

Public Television recently hosted an hour of Grand Canyon scenery paired with classical music masterpieces, Grand Canyon Serenade. I sat watching for the hour unable to move, just mesmerize by the magnitude of it. In a series for the next month I will be sharing different views of the Grand Canyon experience.

This spectacular program presents a stunning HD visual portrait of the Grand Canyon region set to the world-class music of some of the most beloved classical music composers such as Tchaikovsky, Brahms, and Dvorak. Viewers experience breathtaking panoramas and one of the most dramatic adventures on the planet in a meditative film journey that showcases the beauty and spiritual nature of one of America’s crown jewels.

Below is a preview, enjoy.

The story of our national parks is a long and complicated one, full of competing demands between utterly American impulses – between preservation and exploitation, the sacred and the profitable; between the immediate desires of one generation and its obligation and promise to the next.

THIS IS AMERICA is a complete 45-minute film that tells the story of the national park idea through the prism of our nation's diverse population, weaving together stories of extraordinary people from a wide variety of backgrounds who devoted their lives to the national park ideal – to preserve and protect these special places for everyone, for all time – and helped it broaden and evolve over the course of 150 years.

Rebecca Minkoff Talks Fashion Nite Out

In celebration of fashion week I am celebrating designer Rebecca Minkoff. We both grew up in the Mission Hills neighborhood of San Diego, I lived blocks away from her family and was the local babysitter on and off for a decade.

It was the 80's, The Minkoff's moved to Florida, and upon high school graduation Rebecca departed for NYC with dreams of designing.

She started RM with her brother Uri Minkoff, and after a succesful launch, and a beautiful Tuscan wedding to Gavin Bellour, she set her sites on expanding the RM brand. (Be sure to also check out her Ben Minkoff men's line).

Grand Canyon, Ariz.: Ancient rock, eternal truths: Hike down to the Colorado River a dream come true - latimes.com

Every year around this time, I set out points North-East to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. One of my best friends shared this trip with me over 20 years ago, and in his honor I try to make my way before early Oct. closure. The solitude and beauty is breathtaking. I have shared this trip with many friends and family making for lasting memories of my own. In a series for the next month I will be sharing different views of the Grand Canyon experience. This NYTimes post caught my eye today, enjoy.
